“The sphere is a marvelous object. It comes from magic, from magicians: it may be made of glass, bronze, or filled with water. At the same time it recalls the maternal womb, an original and protective space. The sphere is extraordinary because it reflects everything around it, constantly transforming the image of reality and creating contrasts that sometimes make it almost disappear.”
(A. Pomodoro)

The historic center of Pesaro—its “absolute form” made of historic villas, gardens, squares and inner courtyards—is conceptually opened, fragmented and reassembled along the new waterfront. It is not simply an urban extension toward the sea, but rather a translation of spaces and atmospheres: the historic city expands, mirrors itself and regenerates along the coastline.

This operation generates a sequence of small, precious spaces unfolding along Viale Trieste. Intimate squares, gardens, courtyards and resting places form a continuous system of public spaces, guiding the path toward the sea and offering new opportunities for gathering. Like fragments of the historic city scattered along the waterfront, these spaces maintain a recognizable and human scale, inviting people to pause, cross and experience the coastal landscape.

The new waterfront is conceived primarily as a project of ground. Rather than a simple redesign of the promenade, it becomes a large landscape infrastructure that interprets and amplifies the nature of the place. An artificial “sand dune” becomes the generating element of the project: a soft, continuous form that dialogues with the beach and the coastal system, protecting it while strengthening its identity.

This large urban dune performs multiple roles. On one hand, it acts as an environmental device, mediating the relationship between city and sea and providing shelter from wind and sun. On the other, it becomes an inhabitable landscape: a modeled ground that accommodates paths, seating areas, places to rest and viewpoints toward the horizon—spaces where people can stop, meet and share time together. Along Viale Trieste, a flexible system of open public spaces emerges, capable of hosting spontaneous activities, events and everyday life.

The project interprets the waterfront as a dynamic organism in which nature and city merge into a single system. It is a constructed landscape that feels natural at the same time—capable of evolving over time while giving the city a new place of encounter: open, welcoming and deeply connected to the presence of the sea.
